Stern Tube – Stop Leakage of Lubricant

Stern tube leakages

Leakages in stern tubes occur when they are least expexted. There can be several causes of a leakage, for instance:

- fishing lines which are pulled into the seals,
- sand and other impurities damading the seals when passing through shallow waters,
- insufficient lubrication of the seals during dry dock,
- air locks in CPP’s after assemling,
- oil film pressed out during stand still
- etc.

In ABCON, we offer a simple, easy and efficient solution addressing these leakages. By adding one of ABCON’s STERN TUBE SL (Stop Leak) products to the existing system oil, a teflon barrier is created on the damaged seal which reduces the leakage significantly or stops it all together. ABCON provides solutions to both minor and major leakages in all the different kind of seals.

Lip Seals

- With smaller leakages (below 15 liters/day), we recommend our STERN TUBE SL
- With larger leakages (between 15-50 liters/day), we suggest our STERN TUBE SLL
- With major leakages (between 50-100 liters/day), we advise you to buy our STERN TUBE SLLL

The SLL and SLLL products have the same properties as the SL, but contains larger and more complex particles which is more efficient against larger leakages.

Face Seals

- For face seals, we have our STERN TUBE CSL which is designed to stop leaks in small and large Cedervall type systems (below 100 liters/day).

Function

The high content of teflon and other complex particles produce a barrier on the damaged surface of the seal rings. As a result, the leakage is significantly reduced or stopped all together. Should there be water in the lube oils, the stern tube paste will provide a substantial safety margin as teflon maintains its lubrication properties even in water. Furthermore, the products reduce wear and tear and also protect against corrosion.

All our STERN TUBE products can be blended with all types of mineral lubrication oils. They can be used with all types of stern tube seal materials.

Bio Based Versions

Our products are also available in Bio degradable oil based versions with both saturated and unsaterated ester. They all comply with the 2013 EPA VGP requirements as environmentally acceptable. They are all named with a B (BSL, BSLL, BSLLL, BCSL).

Our products are easy to use and can be added by own staff on board the vessels

When assembling systems with rubber seals a much higher protection can be established by using SEAL PROTECT+ on all seal surfaces.
